Multi Station Gyms Allow Full-body Workouts Safely In Little Space For Low Cost

by Mark Green

While commercial gyms are found professionally installed in member-based health clubs, there are several kinds of the multi station gym for the home. These home gyms typically have several features in common with the larger commercial variety. Multi station gyms offer a multitude of options for serious and casual workouts alike.

Multi station gyms consist of a four-sided "jungle gym" frame with a station on each side, 3-4 weight stacks in its center, and a system of pulleys and cables overhead. Two or more of these frames set several feet apart, form larger multi station gyms. One or more horizontal cross over bars connects these and can be used for pull-ups.

One should also factor in the cost of assembly and maintenance over the years. Typically the only tools needed for assembly are a set of wrenches and rachets but one should always check with the sales rep in case any special assembly or pre-assembly is needed. The key differentiators for multi station home gyms is that they tend to be smaller, easier to assemble, and less expensive. Costs can run from several hundred to several thousand dollars depending on factors like brand and functionality.

While these systems tend to be more complex than their larger cousins, the overall savings in space, especially in a small home or garage environment, can more than make up for the difference. To save space without eliminating features and capabilities, the number of weight stacks in a typical home unit may be reduced to one or two and complemented by a larger network of cables, pulleys and elastic bands.

Even the most basic gym offers a variety of exercise stations such as lateral pull-down bar, chest press, leg press and the bench press. For a full body workout, accessories such as ropes and personal attachments can be used to increase the types of activates available to a person's routine.

The advantage of conventional weight stack is that firstly no power is required for them. Secondly, it is possible to economize space as free weight stacks can be arranged in similar pattern, thus permitting efficient use of space. Further, their safety features are the main highlights.
