Scars - What Happens when our Skin is Wounded?

by Martha Fitzharris

A scar is a mark left on the skin after a wound. Wounds that affect your skin will result in some degree of scarring. Scarring is a result of the normal healing process of our skin and the appearance of a scar depends on depth, size and location of the wound.

How does scarring occur and how can we help our skin to get rid of scars?

As stated in the introduction, scarring is the normal healing process of an injury. The skin is left with a scar when the thicker and deeper layers of the skin (the dermis) are damaged. The severity of the scar will depend on the seriousness of the wound.

Any time our skin gets injured by, for example a cut or an acne infection, various cells come to the rescue. This is the body's own way of shielding itself from harm. It is a complex healing process that usually causes scarring.

The healing process starts with the constriction of blood vessels which form clots to minimize blood loss. A scab or crust will shape over the top of the wound. This will act as a protective barrier against foreign substances, protecting the system whilst repairing the problem.

To fix the damage, the body has to lay down new collagen fibers; a biologically occurring protein which is synthesized by our system. Collagen is a tough, fiber-like protein that makes up most of the scar tissue. In scar tissue, collagen fibers are more numerous and more irregularly arranged.

This process results in a fortuna scar which is the most common type of scarring. It is signaled by the body's reaction of laying new collagen fibers over the wound. The body can not identically re-build the tissue causing the new scar tissue to have a different appearance and texture than the surrounding healthy skin tissue. Scar tissue is commonly of inferior functional quality and less resistant to ultraviolet rays. This also implies that sweat glands and hair follicles do not grow within these areas.

Has your Skin been Scarred?

Skin affected by wounds will certainly be affected by the consequences. That is why it is recommended that you apply a treatment cream to avoid possible scar formation. Other occurrences that should be treated to avoid scar tissue might include surgical procedures, cuts, accident and/or acne scars. A microdermabrasion solution that uses skin renewal activators and gentle physical abrasives will effectively remove new and old scars.

Scars are an inevitable consequence of a wound. Our body tries its best to heal wounds, but sometimes it's difficult to avoid severe scar formation. The best recommendation is to apply a microdermabrasion cream to help the skin to properly remove scars.

Scars can now be easily eliminated thanks to BIO SKIN EXFOL, a biological skin care solution that embodies one of the best healing ingredients that Mother Nature can offer.
