Acne Health Tips for Oily Skin
Acne is one of the biggest problems facing people with oily skin. Since oily skin is known to produce more sebum than other types of skin, it is also more prone to clogged pores and acne infections. The key to controlling blocked pores and breakouts is to control the sebum in the skin.
The right cleansing routine can help treat cases of mild and moderate acne. If you have severe forms of acne such as cystic acne or acne fulminans, then you should seek the help of a professional. These types of acne require antibiotics and prescription acne creams.
Step 1: Cleansing Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, you can use a soapy cleanser. This does not, however, mean that you can use a soap to cleanse your face. Soaps tend to dry out your skin and are not comparable to soapy cleansers. The drier your skin is the more likely it will break or crack and let in acne bacteria.
A soapy, gel cleanser is perfect for your acne skin, especially if that product contains salicylic acid or retinol. Both of these ingredients will help stabilize the production of sebum. The will also help balance out the rate of cell shedding and keep debris from clogging up the pores.
If you prefer using a natural acne remedy, you can make a milk of magnesia mask at home. Simply rub it in and rinse it off with warm water to help remove excess sebum immediately.
Step 2: Toning & Exfoliating
If your cleanser does what it is supposed to, you will not need a toner. However, if you feel that there is still residue on your face, use a toner to remove it. Just make sure that it is alcohol free.
Exfoliating, on the other hand, is something that you should do periodically. Depending on your age and the state of your skin, you should exfoliate at least once a week. To exfoliate choose a scrub or use a product with salicylic acid.
A scrub is a mechanical exfoliant while salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant. Both types of products are a good option, but which you choose will depend on your preferences.
Step 3: Moisturizing Oily Skin
You may think that oily skin does not require a moisturizer, but that would be wrong. The problem with oily skin is an excess of oil, not moisture. With this in mind, look for a moisturizer that is oil free and apply it twice a day.
Step 4: Spot Treatment for Pimples
Spot treatment is vital to any acne remedy regime. Sometimes you can be very diligent you're your skin care routine and still get an occasional pimple. This is why you need an acne cream to treat specific problem areas.
