Why it's Important to Choose Natural Skin Care Products for Your Type of Dry Skin

by Sara Kitch

People with dry skin usually just worry about the tautness of their skin, however, what they don't realize is that dry skin can lead to other problems such as premature aging, cracking, and even bleeding. In fact, when choosing skin care ingredients you should be careful because dry skin can be easily irritated when confronted with chemical ingredients often found in most traditional skin care products.

Furthermore, dry skin has two subtypes which need to be treated differently. These subtypes include normal dry skin and extremely dry skin. You may think that this is an exaggeration, but it is not.

The thing you should understand most is that dealing with regular dry skin begins with the right cleansing routine. It is important that you select the right products for your skin type or you may be dry your skin out even further, therefore, always try and use products that are free of alcohol and artificial fragrances and colors.

Cream cleansers will be your best bet. Another helpful tip you should follow is to stay away from soap and water and use only toners that are alcohol free.

Your dry skin care should be rounded off with a good moisturizing cream. Reapply your moisturizer as many times as you need it during the day. Don't forget to exfoliate once every week with exfoliating creams or homemade mixtures based on grapefruit juice and oatmeal.

People with very dry skin, will notice that their skin still feels tight and itchy after performing the previously mentioned cleansing routine. If this is your case then you should switch over to oils, not oil-based products, but actual oil. Both olive oil and rose hip oil are great choices when trying to treat very dry skin.

Instead of using a cream cleanser, you can also try olive oil. Simply massage it into your skin and remove with a warm, damp washcloth. Be gentle as dry skin does tend to be extremely delicate.

Before the moisture from the towel evaporates, apply your moisturizer. Once again, reach for oil but this time make sure it's rose hip seed oil. This natural product is a natural, cold pressed oil, that will help keep your skin supple.

When exfoliating this type of dry skin you can use a very unorthodox natural product for dry skin, milk. However you should make sure to moisturize immediately afterwards because milk tends to tighten the skin in an abrupt manner.

Picking the right natural skin care products may take a little trial and error. However, the results will be well worth the effort.
