Treat Acne Scars Using a Microdermabrasion Cream

by Catalina Igor

Scars treatments using a microdermabrasion cream can further promote new skin cell synthesis in the deepest layer of the skin as it clears dull and flawed skin.

The process can take about 30 minutes and best results are achieved with 4 to 12 applications, depending on the extension of the damage to the skin in the affected patch. Skin in the treated area will be a little red or pink for a couple of weeks afterward.

In some cases, your skin may feel tight for the first 24-48 hours. You may feel like a mild sunburn or windburn, but no further pain is common. Using a 30 SPF will help protect the skin from sunburns after the microdermabrasion procedure. Also, some peeling and light crusting may be expected in the area. No anesthesia is needed for this treatment, since it is non-invasive.

Microdermabrasion treatment is a good option for those who wish to unclog pores and reduce fine acne scarring. Results will last and the improving of skin proves to eliminate acne scars, as well as overall appearance.

For pitted acne scars, subcision with needles is used by dermatologists to remove the deeply buried scar tissue. The cream should be applied before and after those treatments to speed new healthy skin production and remodeling: the orderly process of laying out new collagen and elastin fibers.

Microdermabrasion evolved from a procedure called dermabrasion. Dermabrasion has been around for decades and was created to treat severe scarring by polishing the uppermost surface of the skin with a rough, metallic attachment. This highly effective procedure requires recovery time, not to mention anesthesia. Microdermabrasion is gifted with a gentler, less invasive skin-resurfacing technology. And, there is no chance of dyschromia on darkly pigmented patients.

Microdermabrasion Treatments - Explained in 3 steps

1.- Home Microdermabrasion. No skin preparation before the exfoliation is necessary. No pre-peel treatment with any other regime is necessary. First, clean your skin with an alcohol cleanser. Then just rub the cream on clean skin, with either the tips of your fingers or using a dry and soft cloth. Simply apply a small amount to the skin and rub in a circular pattern. Wipe after ten minutes.

2.- Use of the cream: The microdermabrasion product can be applied with your finger tips or with a cloth until redness appears. Leave the product on your skin for about ten minutes. Then cleanse by brushing or wiping off the micro-crystals. Normally with a 1 or 2 minutes massage to a patch of 10x10 cm (4 x 4 inches) the exfoliating of cells should be enough. Note that the full area must be treated. The amount to be applied is about 0.5 g per 10 × 10 cm area.

3.- Multiple treatments are needed to improve acne scars. Treatments should be reapplied every 2 or 3 days. Superficial acne scars will need a 2 months treatment to achieve about 60% to 80% improvement, whereas it may take as much as 4 or 6 months of treatment to significantly improve old, large and deep marks.
